Living in Japan and discovering the special presence of love hotels, which are almost unheard of in other countries, while taking pictures in the city, brought many ideas and thoughts to mind.
What is love, where is love, and how can we love, have not been well understood until now. How should love be described? Is it emotional, mundane, or selfish?
Japan is the only country in the world where love is included in the name “love hotel.” I happened to come across this love hotel and was curious about it because of its name and appearance. A quick search on the Internet revealed that love hotels are clustered on several streets and scattered in numerous places in Tokyo.
At the beginning of the shoot, I was nervous, ambivalent, and even dangerous, fearing that I would be thought of as a weirdo, but after a few months, I entered these streets and felt more relaxed and even at ease. That place felt like an equalizer, no special attention needed, no people, hotels, decorations or anything I can’t say, just a normal street. It may be different from where I grew up, in China and many other Asian countries, sex seems to be a topic you can’t talk about and can’t even say love. But love is essential for anything you love, people, plants, anything. It is invisible, but I believe that everything is connected by love.
What I want to express and explore in this series is the process of showing love by using love hotels as figurative objects, and I believe that love can be generously shown and talked about and can take many forms.

In fact, because I wanted to take photos of the inside of the love hotel, I worked part-time as a cleaner in a love hotel for almost a month, and the photos I got weren’t very satisfying, and had a completely different impression than the ones above, and for those reasons and the fact that I’m not sure if it’s against the law or not I didn’t want to share those photos yet. But the experience has given me a better understanding of how Love Hotel works, and it’s a very different picture than I had imagined, and it’s given me a lot of new things to think about and even shock me.

The specific story I want to write in the story column, I would like to share here with a Chinese amah when she made the beds with me when she said, maybe I’m not so skillful to make the beds is not so good, she said, probably means, “although we are doing the cleaning work but we should also try to do it beautiful to give the world a little more love right? “ That moment I do not know what to say, you know she is a forty or fifty-year-old woman, in order to make money for the family as far as I know only one or two days for rest each month, doing the most bitter and “unclean” work, I can not believe that she really think that way, a moment I have too much in the thought of things …
